It is hardest for a chess player to find the best move in a game. The hardest
for the Chess Informant team is to find 1000 best games among 50 000. Fortunately, we are not alone. The contributors of Chess Informant are
the chess players from the whole world. Of 25 first players from the latest
FIDE Rating list, 19 annotate their games in the volume 81 (Kasparov, Kramnik, Anand, Morozevich, Adams, Leko, Bareev, Shirov, Kasimdzhanov, Gelfand, Smirin, Georgiev, Van Wely, Karpov, Dreev, J. Polgar, Ponomariov, Lautier and Grischuk).

Kasparov annotates 9 games from Linares and Astana. Kramnik annotates
10 games from Astana, Monaco and Zurich. Anand annotates 3 games from Merida.

This volume brings a selection of 978 fully annotated games from all
the important tournaments played from February 1st till May 31st 2001, including tournaments in Linares, Astana, Dos Hermanas, Sarajevo,
Enghien-les-Bains, Essen, Merida, Russia (ch), etc.

All other usual columns are there as well: 27 best combinations and 18 endings, the ten best games of the previous volume, the ten most important theoretical novelties of the previous volume, theoretical survey of the opening played in
the winning game for the most important theoretical novelty, about 80 cross tables, etc. As a special column there is chess portrait of Vladimir Kramnik (more than 20 pages!). The column brings a selection of Kramnik's best games, novelties, endgames and combinations.
